Optional Thing 11 and Thing 12

I found several articles on different social networks. It was difficult to get interested in sites where people twitter about what they are doing with their day. As far as blogs were concerned, I found useful and interesting material; however, I realize we need to consider the source when gleaning information from blogs or the Internet.

Since I work in the Computer Center, I come in contact with many people who have little or no computer skills. Therefore, I don’t think we can effectively reach our patrons with social networking.

  1. Hi Jo Anne

I know that social networking seems a bit strange to you, but so many people are really into it and it's where they connect and get their news. One of the things libraries can do with these sites, is go where their users already are. If Northland has a Facebook page, then when events are posted there, people who might not think of the library, might notice something that piques their interest! Same with Twitter and various other sites. It's a great way to reach people who are not coming into your building.

  2. Thanks Kelley,
This is an interesting, different viewpoint that I hadn't thought of.
